P2 by Philip Pelusi Honey Molding Beeswax is now Silicone Free containing the up to the minute technological wonder Synthetic Beeswax plus Milk Thistle Oil and more, taking P2 Honey to a whole new level.

The updated P2 Honey formula surpasses the moisturization and heat protection benefits of our original P2 Honey formula.  It contains Synthetic Beeswax, an alternative to natural beeswax.  Interestingly, Synthetic Beeswax cannot be classified as “Vegan” as this terminology primarily pertains to food.

This newly reformulated P2 Honey still maintains its iconic moniker as it has the silky smooth texture of natural honey but without the stickiness.  But this updated P2 Honey formula does not contain any actual honey but instead several Natural Sugars, one a prebiotic polysaccharide obtained from sugar cane.  These natural sugars mimic the benefits of honey increasing moisture retention, heat styling protection and creating shine.

Another star ingredient in our new P2 Honey is Milk Thistle Oil containing hydrating triglycerides helping provide softness, a silky feel as well as weightless heat protection.  Milk Thistle Oil also has antioxidative properties to help prevent color fadage.

The Hydro Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex joins the ingredient listing giving P2 Honey next-level color protection.  This is universal-texture complex of plant derived ceramides mimics the ceramides (known as lipids) found in between cuticle layers.  It helps seal each cuticle layer to each other and to the cortex helping seal in color molecules below.  This proprietary mixture strengthens, hydrates, helps protect color and creates shine.

All of these ingredients provide even better hydration, heat protection and style ability to the hair.  And they give the product a much easier to work with smoother, creamier, and lighter texture while still delivering all the styling benefits P2 Honey loyal customers have come to know and love.

The addition of Philip’s signature White Tea and Thyme Fragrance gives this updated P2 Honey a light and lovely scent.  And last, please note the small amount of water in this new updated Silicone Free formula is the gold standard Demineralized Water Philip has chosen for decades.  No chemicals, ions or minerals interfering with the formulation.  An expensive choice but worth it!

The Philip Pelusi Chic Geek ~ Proteins Part IV ~ The Science of Protein

Philip and his team of chemists work with the scientific principle of substantivity when creating his world-renowned haircare products.  Substantivity, also known as like attracts like, simply means that Philip chooses the right type of proteins and make them the correct molecular size, so they will naturally be attracted to and want to cling to a damaged keratin site in the hair.  This results in smoother, healthier looking, easier to style, voluminous, shinier hair!

By literally saturating hair with these protein molecules, hair will absorb what it can, hold onto those molecules, and therefore operate more like a healthy hair strand, have more shine, hold color better and be more resilient to mechanical and heat damage.  And although this is not a permanent bond, when protein molecules are continually applied to the hair thru subsequent applications hair acts and performs like healthy hair on an on-going basis.

But as I said the molecular size is also critical.  The ingredient needs to be perfected for best penetration.  A protein ingredient can be on a label and actually in the bottle but unless it is made the correct molecular size, it’s just marketing fluff with no action in the hair.  The too-big protein molecule literally flows out of the bottle, past the hair and down the drain.  Hair cannot benefit from the ingredient because it cannot absorb it because it’s just too big.

Instead we use an advanced scientific process called Micro Emulsion Technology to reduce the size of our proteins and all of our ingredients to get the deepest and longest lasting level of penetration in the hair.  This means real results.  So, hair not only feels better to the consumer but hair has long lasting results making hair stronger and performs noticeably better.

The product creation process involves getting the right protein sources treated with the right science and then create a great product recipe to meet the demands of today’s client.  And with getting a good value at the forefront of today’s consumer, we feel we are delivering it with this client of attention to detail and quality in our formulas.

Philip and his team of scientists are constantly perusing new and better ways to enhance the hair from the inside out.  We are not interested in temporary coatings but instead of real substantive hair strengthening thru proteins.  One of our revolutionary, the Hydro-Charged Pelusi Ceramide Complex, Patent Pending, is a plant-based protein complex that we now have in all of our shampoos, conditioners and specialty treatment styling products.

Our mentality is to think of our formulas much in the same way Apply thinks of its IPhone.  We will never stop developing, improving and growing.

The Philip Pelusi Chic Geek ~ Proteins Part III ~ Ingredient Shopping Trip

The Chic Geek by Nikki ~ Product Education Director

When Philip creates a great hair care product, first he goes shopping for great ingredients!  Philip is constantly researching and sourcing the finest grade, most cutting-edge proteins, and other ingredients, from around the world.

He believes when shopping for ingredients, you get what pay for.  And just like shopping for food ingredients, there are various levels of quality when it comes to purchasing hair care ingredients.

Philip has a 100% commitment to quality at all cost and only purchases the very best.  Specifically, Philip works with only the very best plant-based ingredients.  He does not use any animal derived protein sources, not only because of the demands of today’s marketplace, but also because he finds plant sources for protein simply work better in the hair.

Philip and his team of chemists, work with the scientific principle of substantivity, meaning when you choose the right type of protein and make it the correct molecular size, it will naturally cling to a damaged keratin site in the hair.  Next, we’ll explore that highly advanced scientific technology Philip uses to perfect his ingredients and formulas!  Stay tuned!

The Philip Pelusi Chic Geek ~ Proteins Part II ~ Hair Preservation

When we are born and as our hair grows stronger during our youth, like our skin, hair is perfect and healthy and therefore performs perfectly as it consists of its maximum level of keratin protein content.

But as our hair ages, or as we prematurely age our hair with color, chemicals and heat damage such as blow-drying and flat irons, the level of keratin protein diminishes, making hair weak and dull, sometimes to the point that the hair breaks off.

Hair performs its best when it is operating at its full level of protein.  So as a product creator, Philip’s goal is to help recreate this perfect or close-to-perfect hair fabric for the guest, so they will be happier with their hairstyle every day.

To achieve this, Philip uses the most advanced scientific technology teamed with the very best ingredients to help keep hair fabric operating at its maximum level of protein.  Amazing products, such as Xtreme, RepairHair, Intense and more, teamed with the best stylist-to-guest product education makes all the difference in the performance of the hair.

The Philip Pelusi Chic Geek ~ Proteins Part I ~ The Finest Garment We Wear

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in Chic Geek

The Philip Pelusi Chic Geek by Nikki ~ Product Education Director

This is the first post in a series about protein and how it work on the hair.  Philip’s philosophy has always been to think of hair like a fine garment and to teach our guests to treat their hair like the finest garment they own.  A fine garment and hair have a lot in common.

And just like an expensive cashmere sweater or silk blouse, hair is also an investment.  Guests invest in their hair every month in the salon with haircuts, color and texture services.  It is the “garment” they wear the most frequently as we all do wear their hair every day.

And just like the cashmere sweater, hair is made up of fibers, not cashmere fibers, but instead keratin protein makes up the cortex and cuticle of the hair.  And just like any kind of fabric, with more wear the more those fibers are weakened or lost.

So, the question is how do we maintain the keratin protein fibers in hair to keep it strong, shiny and protect color and texture investments?  How do we preserve the fabric?  We’ll explore this fascinating and complex subject and how Philip Pelusi’s products hold the key in this series of Chic Geek posts!  Stay tuned!
