Posted on Leave a commentPosted in BuZZworthy

Philip Pelusi, known well for sculpting his favorite medium of hair, got inspired to sculpt this incredible wig!  Nope, not made of hair, but instead with over 7 pounds of metal pins each pinned on one at time.  Today this artistic marvel would definitely make it onto any Avant-garde social media platform.

Created and photographed in 1993 at The Philip Pelusi Center for Talent Development, this artistic marvel was then worn by one of Philip’s frequent hair models in all out heavy metal gear.  The place just vibes creativity!  Get inspired, see photos below!

Buzzworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ Beyond The Haircut!

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in BuZZworthy

Just like her current popular CBS soap, Beyond The Gates, this Volumetric Haircut story has a lot of twists and turns!  It all started a few days ago when a Guest of Artistic Elite Designer Danette at Sienna gave her this magazine clipping of an interview with the legendary actress Tamara Tunie, originally from McKeesport, PA.  Turns out this her “first real hairstyle” (as the article asks) was created by none other than Philip Pelusi!  So we asked Philip to get all great scoop…

Philip shares…Tamara and her sister were models that I cut, styled and photographed around 1977 or 78 when Coiffure de Paris Magazine came from Paris to Pittsburgh to interview me, and photograph me, the models and the Philip Pelusi Design staff at our Bank Center Salon in downtown Pittsburgh at the time.”

Philip shares…You can see in this group photo in front of the salon, of the staff and models we presented to the magazine.  The magazine took many photos of our salon and our work in progress.  The cuts and designs for both Tamara and her sister were smooth Bob style haircuts with strong asymmetrical angled bangs.”

Philip shares… “These are the images from the actual published Coiffure de Paris Magazine.  You can see in the 1st magazine clip (shown here) Tamara is sitting on the floor gazing down and also standing with a group of models and the Philip Pelusi design staff with my hand almost under her chin.”

Philip shares…  “And in the 2nd magazine clip (also shown here) Tamara’s photo is above the Volu-Raising word on the page and her sister is sitting on the floor striking a pose to the left of her.  Both glamourous women who wore our Volumetric designs very well.”

Since then the well-respected actress has commanded many roles as a strong female character, starring as a temptress in The Devil’s Advocate, Flight, Law & Order, As the World Turns and so many more including her current role as the striking, long gray haired matriarch Anita Dupree on CBS’s super popular soap, Beyond The Gates.

Buzzworthy @ Philip Pelusi ~ Great Press!

Posted on Leave a commentPosted in BuZZworthy

Before there was social media there were newspapers and magazines!  Lots and lots of magazines!  Powerful publications in which to get your product published for the public to see, you had to win over the magazine’s esteemed Beauty Editors who literally received hundreds of products to try and review each week!

These folks were the “influencers” of their time.  And to get one of these coveted spots in a national or international magazine was truly triumphant!

Here are several examples of the thousands of P2 by Philip Pelusi product press coverage pieces Philip has been receiving since the 1960’s when he got his start in the hair industry.

From the creative genius of Philip Pelusi Creative Director Jeffrey Reitz!  Presenting the Duck Parade at Philip Pelusi!  This cool team building exercise was Jeffrey’s brainchild to boost Designer creativity and just plain have fun, creating these unique looks of duck couture and coiffure.

Everything including hair, makeup and clothing, each salon was assigned a duck to create a unique look in homage to many popular superstars of that era.

The whole gaggle at The Philip Pelusi Center for Talent Development

The Philip Pelusi Salon Design Teams created Duckatella Vesace, Vera Wing, Karl Duckerfeld, Christian Duckboutin, Duck Dior, Duck Gaultier, Ducky Cleopatra in honor of Beyoncé’s character as Foxxy Cleopatra in the then popular movie Austin Powers, plus a duck created in Philip’s likeness (2nd duck from the right on the top row).  Check out the Philip-esque hair, spectacles, and suit!

And kudos, the images were published in Modern Salon and American Salon magazines and the ducks went on tour to NYC Mercedes Benz Fashion week presented at the Tela Design Studio!

Designer and Talent Development Trainer Regina at The Block was part of salon team participants and still absolutely raves about the event.

Regina shares, “We all had a blastRoss Park (now The Block) was inspired by Victoria Secret’s fantasy angel wings and diamonds.  We were all given just a plain white lawn duck.  Each salon had one and I remember meeting up a few times to work on it.  It was team building because we all worked together and it got the creative juices flowing.  I think there might have been some hair and craft stuff to choose from at The Philip Pelusi Center for Talent Development but I think we went to Michaels and other craft stores to get supplies.  We had a lot of fun doing this project and it was hilarious presenting them.”
