How to Properly Shampoo Your Hair – by Nikki B.

Sometimes when we get in the shower we go on autopilot, rushing through or daydreaming while shampooing our hair.  But there is a proper way to cleanse to help support a healthy scalp environment and lush beautiful hair.

Get the right products: First on the list is to use the products that are right for your hair and scalp type.  The best way to find out what to use is to get a consultation from a hair professional trained to analyze your hair texture and scalp.  Make an appointment today with your Skill Certified Philip Pelusi Stylist for a free consultation.

They will determine whether your hair is fine, medium or coarse, whether its thickness is dense or sparse, color protection needs, the level of dryness or weakness of your hair strands and more.  They will also check your scalp and consult with you about possible problems such as dandruff or an overly oily scalp.  Then they will create a personal Philip Pelusi Product System for you, the proper shampoo(s) and conditioner(s) to help improve the condition of your hair and scalp as well as help enhance your hair texture.  Try our wide array of P2 by Philip Pelusi Shampoos and Conditioners and our Rx Shampoos for niche problems such as dandruff.

How to cleanse: First, make sure your hair is soaking wet before applying shampoo.  Our cleansers are very highly concentrated and contain zero water.  Hair needs to be completely wet in order to move the shampoo through your strands.

Next, apply a dime to quarter size amount of shampoo depending on the amount of hair you have.  More hair means more shampoo is needed.  Physically distribute the shampoo to various areas of your scalp.  Don’t just plop the shampoo on top of your head.  Methodically gently massage the shampoo over all areas of your scalp spending several minutes cleansing your entire head.  Be sure to get down to the scalp with your fingertip pads.  Use your palms to gently move the shampoo down your hair strands.  No raking or snarling your hair, be gentle as hair is most fragile when it is wet.

Don’t look for a lot of bubbles, this just means a gentler cleanse.  P2 by Philip Pelusi Shampoos are Sulfate Free and instead cleanse with Philip’s proprietary Pelusi Sugar Cane Cleanse Blend that gently cleanses with Sugar Cane, Sugar Maple, Apple Seed and Bilberry.

If hair has a lot of oil and product in it, you might need to rinse and shampoo again.  But if you cleanse daily, this is generally not needed.  Rinse hair and scalp thoroughly, gently lifting and moving hair so that you thoroughly rinse your scalp as well.  And as a rule of thumb, you want to cleanse hair from root to end and condition the opposite way, starting at the ends and working up towards the scalp.

How frequently to shampoo:  Generally, the longer, thicker and coarser the hair the more time should and could be spend in between shampoos.  Consult with your Skill Certified Philip Pelusi Stylist for guidance on how frequently you should be cleansing.  Also, for in between shampooing, you can reach for our P2 Clenz Crème No-Sudsing Cleansing Conditioner to use in shower in leu of a traditional shampoo.

Or try our P2 RefresHair Smart Styling Texture Spray.  Its Sunflower Extract helps hydrate, calming static while White Tea and Thyme freshen hair’s scent.  This incredible multitask spray acts as a lightweight hairspray and heat protector so you can use it to reshape and boost your style as well.  Lightly mist onto hair, brush through, fingerstyle or throw in a few twists from your flat or curling iron to refresh your look.  It’s so lightweight and dries in seconds.  Hair stays pliable never stiff or sticky.
